Jayson Castro was named as the Best Player of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup and June Mar Fajardo, who settled as the runner-up, couldn’t be happier for his fellow national team player.
“Deserving si Jayson kasi ang ganda ng nilaro niya throughout this conference. So deserve siyang makakuha nun,” said the 29-year old Cebuano.
“So congrats kay Jayson tsaka doon sa import, kay Terrence (Jones). Ganun naman talaga,” added Fajardo.
Castro garnered a total of 1,077 points compared to Fajardo’s 762 while rookie Ray Parks Jr. rounded up the top 3 with 576.
Parks was tops in statistical points while Castro emerged as number 1 in both the media and PBA votes. Fajardo came in first in players’ votes.
Aside from being the league’s only 5-time MVP, the SMB big man also holds the distinction of having the most BPC awards with 8. Six of which came during the last 6 stagings of the Philippine Cup with one coming from the 2015 Governors’ Cup and the other during last season’s Commissioner’s Cup.
With that in mind, SMB coach Leo Austria couldn’t help but console the league’s most dominant center for losing out on the current conference’s top award for local players.
“Marami ka na naman noon eh hindi ba? Kailangan i-share natin.”
