Former Columbian Dyip import Lester Prosper will serve as San Miguel’s 2nd reinforcement in the East Asia Super League’s The Terrific 12 tournament which is slated on September 17-22 at the Tap Seac Multi-sports Pavilion in Macau.
Prosper will team-up with the Beermen’s Governors’ Cup import Dez Wells in the week-long competition which will also feature TNT KaTropa and the Blackwater Elite.
With the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup due to end on September 15, the newly-crowned PBA Commissioner’s Cup champs will miss the services of 5-time league MVP June Mar Fajardo which is why the SMB coaching staff decided to enlist Prosper who averaged 36.5 points, 17.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 4 games for the Dyip.
“Since each team is allowed two imports, we’re bringing in Lester Prosper. For the duration of our practice, we won’t have June Mar since the World Cup will only end on September 15 and then we will leave on September 16 with our first game the following day. So we need somebody to fill in the slot of June Mar,” explained San Miguel head coach Leo Austria during an interview with ESPN5.
The Beermen will take a few days of rest before plunging back into action.
“Our players need this rest because we all know that after we won the All-Filipino, we didn’t have much time to celebrate and rest, and then we had to compete quick for the Commissioner’s Cup. That contributed to our very slow start, though it’s a good thing we overcame the twice-to-beat disadvantage and we were able to reach our peak by the time we reach the Finals,” bared the 8-time PBA champion mentor.
San Miguel takes on the Shenzhen Aviators on September 17 before tangling with the defending Terrific 12 champions Ryukyu Golden Kings on September 19.
