The Magnolia Hotshots and the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters engage each other for the last time in their semifinal series with the winner having the unenviable task of taking on defending champion San Miguel Beermen in a best-of-seven Finals series which starts on Wednesday, May 1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters arranged the winner-take-all match by virtue of their 91-81 Game 6 win which at the same time snapped the 3-game winning run of the Hotshots in the semis.
Game 7 is scheduled on Sunday, April 28, 6:30pm at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
“Basically, it’s now all about the will and the desire of the players. Whoever wants it more on Sunday will win this,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.
“It’s 50/50. But as long as we come out and play hard, hit our shots like in Game Six, and become aggressive in attacking the basket, we’ll have a chance,” said Rain or Shine mentor Caloy Garcia.
At stake for the Hotshots is a chance to avenge its defeat at the hands of the very same opponent which dealt them a 4-1 beating in the Finals of the same conference just last season.
For the Elasto Painters, it’s an opportunity to finally advance past the semifinal round, something which has eluded the Raymond Yu and Terry Que-owned franchise for the last 7 conferences.
