Magnolia Hotshots big man Ian Sangalang was picture of consistency during the team’s surge in the latter stage of the elimination round of the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup.
The lefty product out of San Sebastian College played a key role in the team’s intensified drive for a playoff spot after opening the conference with three successive losses.
The Hotshots won five of its last seven games to remain in the thick of contention for a top 6 finish.
Sangalang, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder in the conference with averages of 16.3 points and 10 rebounds, jacked up his scoring in the last 2 games which resulted in victories over NorthPort and Blackwater.
The 27-year old veteran averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 blocks as the team moved out of the cellar and into a more comfortable position in the middle of the pack with a 5-5 win-loss record.
For his efforts, Sangalang was named as the 2019 Cignal PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of March 18-24, beating out teammates Rodney Brondial and Paul Lee, San Miguel’s Alex Cabagnot, Brgy. Ginebra forward Japeth Aguilar, Alaska wingman Jeron Teng and NorthPort’s Stanley Pringle.
The Hotshots take on the NLEX Road Warriors on April 3 to close out its eliminations schedule.
