Caguioa made the mark on a jumper from the right elbow in the last 1:10 of play, then pointed a finger to high above to a lusty cheer from the Ginebra crowd.

He became the 16th member – 15th local player — of the league’s elite 10,000-point club at age 38 and in his 16th season in the league since being drafted by Ginebra at No. 3 overall in 2001.

Caguioa scored 16 points to hit the milestone and was on the floor as the Kings made a big explosion in the third quarter on the way to a sixth win against a solitary loss.

He joined in the elite club Ramon Fernandez, Abet Guidaben, Alvin Patrimonio, Atoy Co, Nelson Asaytono, Philip Cezar, Jojo Lastimosa, Bogs Adornado, Robert Jaworski, Allan Caidic, Jerry Codinera, Benjie Paras, Francis Arnaiz, James Yap and import Norman Black.

He’s the third to hit the plateau on a Ginebra jersey after Arnaiz and Jaworski.

“I’m honored to be part of Mark Caguioa’s 10,000th point. He’s got a hell of a career. He’s a special player and special person. He deserves this,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

“I’m happy to be part of this. I’m sad I was not able to coach him when he’s younger, when he’s at the prime of his career,” Cone added.

Caguioa’s feat was the cherry on Ginebra’s wonderful night.
