KJ McDaniels and Troy Rosario scattered 32 points apiece as the the hot-shooting TNT KaTropa stayed perfect in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup with a 123-118 win over the stubborn Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The win enabled the KaTropa to stay on top of the team standings, together with idle NLEX, with identical 3-0 records. The loss, on the other hand, was the 3rd for the Fuel Masters in 4 outings which dropped them to 10th place.
Rosario, who saw action for 32 minutes, shot an impeccable 11-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-9 from long distance. TNT, as a team, shot 18-of-30 from the 3-point country for a sizzling 60% shooting clip.
Roger Pogoy and Jayson Castro chipped in 22 and 20 points, respectively and shot a combined 7-of-10 from long distance.
TNT coach Bong Ravena, however, wasn’t pleased with the way his team played defense throughout the game.
“We gave away 118 points. Hindi kami puwedeng maglaro ng ganun. Wala kaming tatalunin na teams sa coming games. We need to improve,” said Ravena.
“All the locals stepped up. Troy, Jayson, RR. But we cannot afford to play that kind of defense,” he added.
Matthew Wright led Phoenix with 30 points while Eugene Phelps added 29 markers and 11 boards. Jason Perkins likewise finished with his own double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
