The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) will open its 3rd Season on Wednesday, June 12 with a total of 31 competing teams.
Fresh from the successful staging of its second season wherein 26 teams participated, the country’s fastest growing regional cage league added 6 more teams to the mix, while one took a leave of absence.
Early into the off-season, Bicol and Mindoro became the newest members followed by Soccsksargen which signed during the first week of June.
Iloilo, Nueva Ecija and Bacolod round up the latest additions.
Bohol came close to becoming the 32nd member but failed to complete the requirements on time.
On the other hand, Mandaluyong will miss out on the upcoming season as the new team owners missed the deadline for payment of the franchise fee.
Of the 31, 15 teams will make up North Division while 16 will comprise the South.
