Rain or Shine sophomore guard Rey Nambatac came up with the timely hits to propel the Elasto Painters past the Magnolia Hotshots, 91-81, Friday night at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

The 25-year old product of Colegio de San Juan de Letran erupted for three triples in a span of 5 minutes in the latter part of the closing period to keep the Hotshots at bay. The last one gave his team a 12-point spread, 83-71, with just over 3 minutes left in the game clock.

Veterans Beau Belga and Gabe Norwood then delivered the finishing touches to put the game completely away from reach.

“We just tried to keep everything simple. Basically, we just enjoyed practice yesterday. Just told them to play your game, play the way you’re supposed to play. Be relaxed, and it worked”, said coach Caloy Garcia who was obviously relieved after the much-needed victory.

The win stopped the three-game winning run by the Hotshots and set the stage up for a winner-take-all match on Sunday, April 28 at the MOA Arena.

Nambatac, along with former Magnolia star James Yap, paced the Elasto Painters with 16 points apiece while Belga contributed 15.

Jewel Ponferada, another former Magnolia player, had a solid performance with 11 points and 7 boards while Norwood added 8 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Hotshots were led by Ian Sangalang and Paul Lee with 19 and 18 points respectively.
