Rain or Shine finally pulled off a win against perennial nemesis Columbian, thanks to Rey Nambatac who buried a clutch jumper with 2.6 seconds left to give his team a 2-point lead, 88-86, and eventually the victory against hard-fighting Columbian, Sunday night at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum.
The win snapped the team’s 4-game losing streak against Dyip dating back to the last four conferences and improved its 2019 Commissioner’s Cup standing to an even 3-3.
“It’s finally nice to get a win against Columbian,” said Elasto Painters coach Caloy Garcia. “We lost for the last four conferences against them. I told the players the only motivation they can get is to win today’s game.”
Denzel Bowles finished with 29 points, 14 boards and 10 assists but shot a miserable 7 of 21 from the stripe which almost spelled doom for his squad.
Namabatac and Jewel Ponferada backstopped Bowles, whose failure to call a timeout in the last 6 seconds of their previous game against NorthPort proved costly, with 10 markers apiece.
Lester Prosper paced the Dyip with 26 points and 15 rebounds while Rashawn McCarthy, who hit a triple in the dying seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime, added 15. CJ Perez and Jackson Corpuz finished in double figures as well with 12 and 11, respectively.
