In a highly-defensive game, Poy Erram stood out.
The NLEX center capped a sterling game by pulling off a crucial block that pointed NLEX to an 87-83 win over Meralco Saturday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
The Bolts had the chance to tie and Ranidel de Ocampo seemed well on his way, but Erram was there to deny the veteran forward an undergoal stab and thus preserved the Road Warriors’ 85-83 lead in the Petron Saturday road show.
Bong Galanza then canned two charities in the last 4.8 seconds to ice it and ensure NLEX’s second straight win that jacked its record to 2-3 and catch its victim, idle defending champion San Miguel Beer and TNT at fourth-running spot.
As important for winning coach Yeng Guiao is the steady improvement being displayed by his team.
“We had to go through some ups and downs during the game and I look at it as a positive sign, winning in different ways,” said Guiao, whose team easily held off Columbian 107-97 last Wednesday.
