Mike Miranda is set for a return to the NLEX Road Warriors after the Yeng Guiao-mentored squad dealt Juami Tiongson to the NorthPort Batang Pier for the volatile center.
The 28-year old Miranda, who was the 21st overall pick in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft, played for the Road Warriors from 2017 to 2018 before he was traded to TNT as part of the complicated deal which was centered on Gilas big man Poy Erram.
“It so happened that Mike was available. Since Mike came from our team before and knows my system, he became a natural consideration,” said NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao on reacquiring the bruiser out of San Sebastian College.
Tiongson, on the other hand, was chosen by Blackwater as the 12th overall pick in the 2014 Draft and played with the Elite for 2 seasons before being picked up by Guiao in 2017. The 28-year old guard out of Ateneo de Manila posted averages of 7.8 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds in 11 games during the recently concluded Commissioner’s Cup.
“We did not want to give up Juami, but NorthPort insisted that he be the one included in the deal. We offered our second round picks but they insisted on Juami. The mere fact that they insisted that he be part of the trade proves how much he has grown. He had actually just been granted a contract renewal with NLEX before the trade, which is an indication that he’s going to be in the league for a while. He has earned it. We’re happy to have been part of his improvement and his development in his career. I wish Juami the best and hope he plays well,” added the concurrent national team mentor.
The PBA Commissioner’s Office has already given its stamp of approval on the trade as per the Road Warriors official Twitter account.
UPDATE: @pbaconnect has approved the trade. We welcome back Mike to the Road Warriors, and wish Juami the best as he continues his PBA career.
