Badly wanting to follow up its Game 1 victory over defending champion San Miguel, Magnolia deployed a more aggressive stance against the talent-laden Beermen and paid dearly for it by being whistled for more fouls.
The Hotshots went toe-to-toe in the first 2 quarters but things fell apart in the 3rd canto as the Beermen unleashed its full offensive arsenal. To make things worse, the officials called it much tighter this time around compared to the series opener which spelled doom for the recent Governors’ Cup champions.
The Hotshots were assessed a total of 32 fouls, from which resulted in 36 free throw attempts for the Beermen.
“We gave up a lot of free throws. That’s it. Thirty-six attempts, tapos na-convert nila, twenty-six? Mataas ‘yun,” said Magnolia star Paul Lee.
“Sa start, I thought na tumaas ulit yung chance namin. Pero yun nga eh, what do you expect? San Miguel yan eh,” he added.
Despite the stinging setback, Lee is still upbeat about the team’s chances in Game 3 which is set on Sunday, May 5 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We need to put more effort and aggressiveness and play smart basketball. Hindi naman natin masasabi na hindi mauulit eh. Pwedeng maulit, pwedeng hindi. Alam mo yun? Hanggat hindi pa nangyayari yan, wala pang results.”
