PBA slaps ₱100K fine on Blackwater, launches probe on team owner’s remarks

The Philippine Basketball Association has slapped a ₱100,000 fine on Blackwater for returning to practice ahead of the July 22 target date set by the league.

Commissioner Willie Marcial also ordered all of the team’s players to undergo swab testing followed by a 7-day quarantine period if the test turns out negative.

“One, hindi pa pinapayagan ng PBA. Two, may go-signal pero wala pang letter kasi ginagawa pa ng (Inter-Agency) Task Force. ‘Yun ang sinasabi ko,” said Marcial during an interview with Lyn Olavario of TV5.

Aside from the premature practice session, the team is also in hot water over the statement of owner Dioceldo Sy regarding the possible sale of the 5-year old franchise.

“Regarding sa selling the franchise, seryoso at mabigat ‘yung mga sinabi ni Mr. Dioceldo kaya papa-imbestigahan ko. Pagkatapos ng imbestigasyon, papadala ko agad sa board yung findings at recommendations ko,” explained the amiable league executive.

The Elite, one of the PBA D-League pioneers, made the jump to the pros in 2014 as an expansion team and has compiled an overall win-loss record of 49-124.
