“With the possibility of a PBA restart, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters have began discussions on its future plans. After much deliberation, management has decided to discontinue Mr. Louie Alas’ services as Head Coach,” wrote the team.
With the post vacant, the team added that assistant coach Topex Robinson will fill the void on an interim basis.
“In the meantime, the Management has appointed Associate Head Coach Topex Robinson to take the functions as Head Coach on an interim basis until such time.”
“We believe in Coach Topex’s capacity to lead this team and we look forward to the Fuelmasters’ resurgence as one of the league’s exciting contenders.”
While the reason for the sudden termination wasn’t disclosed by team management, sources bared that Alas has been at odds with top officials for quite sometime already. His three-year contract is set to expire at the end of next month.
Prior to his stint with the Fuel Masters, Alas has served as the head coach of TNT (Mobiline), and then assistant for Sta. Lucia, Magnolia (Purefoods) and Alaska. He was recently slapped a 15-day suspension by Phoenix management for violations of health protocols during the first day of group workouts.
