Rain or Shine appoints Chris Gavina as new head coach

Rain or Shine announced on Monday, March 1 that Chris Gavina has been appointed as the Elasto Painters’ new head coach.

“We are excited to announce the appointment of Chris Gavina as Rain or Shine’s Head Coach. He brings with him several years of experience as a coach in both the PBA and MPBL,” said the team in a statement posted on its social media accounts.

The 42-year old Gavina, who spent the last three seasons as one of the squad’s assistant coaches, will take over the spot of Caloy Garcia who will stay on as an active consultant and head of basketball operations at the same time.

Gavina burst into the pro league in 2016 as one of Manny Pacquiao’s deputies in Mahindra and was later on promoted to head coach. It was during his stint at the helm that the franchise made its first and only appearance in the quarterfinals.

He also had head coaching gigs for the Valenzuela Classic and Bacoor Strikers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
