Rain or Shine has enlisted the services of another former Magnolia import as its reinforcement in the upcoming Governors’ Cup which is set to kick-off on September 20.
After securing clearance from the Hotshots, the Elasto Painters are set to bring back Joel Wright who had his first PBA tour of duty back in 2016 when he came in as replacement for Marqus Blakely.
The 29-year old Wright posted averages of 28.4 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.4 blocks in 7 games but could only lead the Hotshots to a single win as the team failed to advance to the playoffs due to a dismal 2-9 record.
The NBA G-League veteran is coming off a stint with BBC Monthey in the Swiss Basketball League where he averaged 15.5 points, 4.3 boards, 2.5 steals and 1.3 rejections.
“Well, we saw him play last 2016. He likes to run the floor, plays defense. I think that’s the type of import that we need because inaano namin yung pinakita ni C-Mo. It’s almost similar,” said Rain or Shine mentor Caloy Garcia.
Meanwhile, NorthPort is also set to parade a former PBA import in Mychal Ammons, a former TNT reinforcement.
The 27-year old Ammons came in as a replacement for Marcio Little after 4 games into the 2016 Governors’ Cup and led the KaTropa to the top spot after the elimination round with a 10-1 card. TNT slipped past Phoenix in the quarterfinals but fell to Meralco in 4 games in the best-of-five semifinal round.
He averaged 14.75 points, 12.92 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in 12 games and had an 8-4 record.
Ammons, who is coming off a stint with the Tijuana Zonkeys in Mexico, is set to arrive on September 1.
