Rain or Shine and Alaska have agreed to a trade deal which will send Maverick Ahanmisi to the Aces for Ping Exciminiano plus a 2019 1st round pick.
Trade papers have already been forwarded to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval.
Alaska currently has two 1st round picks in the upcoming rookie draft as aside from its own, it gained an additional pick from the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters as part of the Calvin Abueva deal. The Elasto Painters will be getting the lower of the two picks.
Ahanmisi was the 1st round pick of the Elasto Painters in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft, 3rd overall behind Moala Tauatuaa and Troy Rosario. The 28-year old Fil-Nigerian, who played college ball for the Minnesota Golden Gophers from 2010-2014, averaged 12.09 points, 5.91 rebounds, 2.82 assists and 1.36 steals per game in the 2019 Philippine Cup. He sustained an ankle injury during Game 1 of the semifinals and has been sidelined ever since.
Meanwhile, Exciminiano was the 2nd round pick of the Aces in the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft, 18th overall. The 30-year old native of Olongapo City played college ball for the FEU Tamaraws and is a 2-time member of the PBA All-Defensive team (2015 & 2016).
The Elasto Painters now possess three 2019 1st round picks – their own, one from Alaska and the other one from Meralco which they acquired during the Raymond Almazan deal.
UPDATE: The league has officially placed its stamp of approval on the deal Friday afternoon via a post on its Facebook page.
