Rain or Shine is set to parade Carl Montgomery in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup as replacement for original choice Denzel Bowles who was ruled out for the rest of the conference after sustaining a knee injury during the team’s game against the Alaska Aces, Saturday night at the MOA Arena.
The 30-year old Bowles collided with Alaska wingman Jeron Teng in the 2nd quarter of the match and was immediately brought to the nearest medical facility. The former Magnolia reinforcement admitted that he heard something crack in his knee and was found to have suffered a meniscus tear and a small medial collateral ligament tear.
The Elasto Painters are currently holding a 4-5 card and would need to win their last 2 games against Magnolia on July 10 and San Miguel on July 13 to have a chance of advancing to the next round.
“It would be hard to match what Denzel had provided us. But Montgomery will surely be a big help on the defensive end,” said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia.
The 6-foot-8 Montgomery played 4 seasons for Chicago State in the US NCAA where he posted averages of 17.1 points and 7.7 rebounds in his final year. He also had stints in Latvia, Estonia and Belgium before taking his act to Malaysia to play for the JD Unicorns in the Malaysian Pro League.
