Rey Guevarra just made a case for himself as one of the best dunkers in PBA history.
The Phoenix wingman beat out Renz Palma to win the All-Star weekend Slam Dunk title for a record-tying fifth time Friday night at the Calasiao Sports Complex.
Guevarra scored a perfect 50 in the dunk-off against Palma, soaring high for a one-hander slam amid a phalanx of his Phoenix teammates on the court.
He had the crown virtually in the bag as Palma failed to convert on all of his attempts as he tried to dunk the ball off a Beau Belga lob pass from the courtside section of the venue.
Guevarra now ties KG Canaleta for the most number of slam dunk titles in the history of the Skills Challenge competition with five.
“Siyempre, sobrang special kasi na-tie ko yung idol ko, si KG,” he said afterwards.
Palma finished runner-up for the second straight season, but almost dethroned Guevarra when he jumped over six players to score a perfect 50 in the finals.
