NorthPort finished the elimination round of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup as the 2nd seed, just behind the Terrence Jones-powered TNT KaTropa.
Armed with a twice-to-beat advantage, the Batang Pier took on 7th-seeded San Miguel in the quarterfinals and lost the first game but not without a fight.
The Pido Jarencio-mentored squad stormed back from a 17-point 3rd quarter deficit and was only down by 1 halfway into the final frame when the roof caved in. The Batang Pier lost import Prince Ibeh to 6 fouls and the Beermen finished off the job.
Rookie Robert Bolick, who paced the team with 20 points, remains upbeat despite the heart-breaking setback.
“One game lang yan. We’ll come back strong. Part of the game talaga. Ganoon talaga,” said the 3rd overall pick in the most recent PBA Rookie Draft.
The 23-year old out of San Beda University vowed to bounce back in the winner-take-all match which is scheduled on Wednesday, July 24, 4:30pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“Confident ako sa team namin. Hindi namin ibibigay nang madali ito, for sure. We will fight, we will have a dogfight on Wednesday,” said Bolick.
“We worked hard for the second-seed tapos kukunin na lang nang ganoon? No. Papakamatay kami.”
