Ronald Tubid, Kelly Nabong slapped with suspension, P75K fine for involvement in ‘Spider-Man’ incident

The San Miguel duo of Kelly Nabong and Ronald Tubid were fined P75,000 each for their roles in the ‘Spider-Man’ incident which happened during the closing minutes of Game 5 of the recently concluded 2019 Philippine Cup Finals.

The Beermen won over the Magnolia Hotshots to extend their dominance of the all-Filipino conference to 5 seasons.

Aside from the monetary penalty, Tubid and Nabong were each meted a three-game suspension as well which will be served during the Beermen’s first three games of the Commissioner’s Cup.

The sanctions were announced after the two met with commissioner Willie Marcial at the league office on Wednesday.

Tubid punched the man dressed as Spider-Man, who was later identified as Paolo Felizarta, just as he was being escorted out of the playing court by security personnel.

Felizarta ran the full length of the Smart Araneta floor during the 3-minute mark of the 4th quarter and in the process hit an oblivious June Mar Fajardo. The Best Player of the Philippine Cup was jarred from the collision and it took him a couple of minutes to stand up and walk to the bench.

Nabong, on the other hand, punched another man who was allegedly an accomplice of Felizarta near the team’s bench.

SMB team officials Daniel Henares and Dr. Ibanez were also penalized for their actions. The two were fined P50,000 each and suspended for 2 games.
