With his desire to help his team, Alex Cabagnot defied his doctor’s advice, suiting up and returning into action Wednesday night.
And he was helpful as he scored 19 points, including 3-of-5 three-pointers, as San Miguel Beer arrested its two-game skid with a 93-79 win over Blackwater in the PBA Philippine Cup at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
“Talagang ayaw pa siyang pabalikin sa laro ng doctor, kaya lang hindi na niya mapigilan yung sarili niya sa kagustuhan makatulong sa team,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
Cabagnot also issued five assists and came through with one rebound, one steal and one block in 24 minutes of action in his return from a four-game layoff.
Christian Standhardinger took his turn to rest an injury, but June Mar Fajardo was more than enough to dominate Blackwater’s frontline as the Beermen notched the morale-boosting win ahead of their crucial match versus the Magnolia Pambansang Manok Hotshots Sunday.
“Good win for us going to our big game against Magnolia (Sunday). Only two teams get a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals. Mathematically, we still have the chance, but we’ll first focus our attention on Magnolia,” said Austria.
