San Miguel moved within 1 win away from a return trip to the Finals of the Philippine Cup by whipping the Phoenix Pulse Fuel Masters, 114-91, in Game 4 of their best-of-seven semifinal series, Tuesday evening at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
The Beermen, thus, took a commanding 3-1 lead and will be looking to close the series in Game 5 which is set on Thursday, April 25 at the same venue.
Terrence Romeo provided the spark in the 3rd quarter as the defending champions turned an 11-point halftime lead into an imposing 26-point bubble going into the final period.
The 27-year old native of Imus, Cavite actually outscored the entire Phoenix team in the 3rd canto as he dropped 17 points spiked by 5 three-pointers, as against 15 by the Fuel Masters, to almost single-handedly turn the tight game into a lopsided contest.
The match, however, almost turned into a free-for-all in the 2nd quarter after Alex Cabagnot knocked down RJ Jazul with what looked like to be a closed fist. Alex Mallari then pushed Cabagnot which forced Matt Ganuelas-Rosser to come to the aid of his fallen teammate.
Mallari was ejected from the game after incurring 2 successive technical fouls.
All in all, a total of 8 technical fouls were called in the emotionally-charged game, the highest so far in the conference.
Cabagnot contributed 18 points while Arwind Santos added 16. Chris Ross and Von Pessumal each dropped 10 markers.
Calvin Abueva was the lone Fuel Master to finish in double-figures in scoring with 19.
