Newly crowned 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup champion San Miguel has enlisted the services of NBA G-League veteran Dez Wells as reinforcement for the upcoming Governors’ Cup which is set to open next month.
The 27-year old Wells played for Xavier (2011-2012) and Maryland (2012-2015) in the US NCAA Division I Men’s basketball tournament. He was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2012 and was an AP Honorable Mention in the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball All-Americans.
He went undrafted in the 2015 NBA Draft but managed to play one preseason game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was eventually waived but was picked up by the team’s G-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue, where he played for a total of three seasons.
The 6-foot-5 native of Raleigh, North Carolina also had stints in Greece and Italy.
Wells will make his debut for San Miguel in the East Asia Super League Terrific 12 which is set on September 17 to 22 in Macau. The Beermen are slotted in Group B alongside Japanese team Ryukyu Golden Kings and Chinese squad Shenzhen Aviators.
