The Samahang Basketol ng Pilipinas has released the names of 24 players who will form the pool for the Gilas Pilipinas Men’s team which will compete in the first window of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers this February.
A hybrid list of players led by PBA stars Christian Standhardinger, Japeth Aguilar and Roger Pogoy will join amateur standouts Juan and Javi Gomez de Liano, Kobe Paras and Thiry Ravena in the national squad which will go up against Indonesia and Thailand in the first wave of qualifying matches which will determine the 16 participants for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup.
Other PBA players in the mix are NLEX’s Kiefer Ravena and Poy Erram, TNT’s Ray Parks and Troy Rosario, Columbian’s CJ Perez, Blackwater’s Mac Belo, Phoenix’s Matthew Wright and Magnolia veteran Marc Pingris.
Collegiate players Justine Baltazar, JD Tungcab and Dave Ildefonso as well as promising Fil-Am guard Dwight Ramos were also included.
Rounding out the list are Isaac Go, Matt and Mike Nieto, Rey Suerte and Allyn Bulanadi – all incoming PBA rookies from the 2019 Gilas Special Draft.
Aside from Thailand and Indonesia, which Gilas will face on February 20 and 23, respectively, the Philippines is also bracketed with Korea in Group A. The Philippine team will take on the Koreans on November 27.
No coach has yet to be appointed although the SBP is set to name one on an interim basis in the coming days.
