Scottie Thompson out, Roger Pogoy in as Gilas Pilipinas battles Kazakhstan

Roger Pogoy will mark his return for the Philippines’ national basketball team after serving out a five-game suspension slapped by FIBA on the TNT KaTropa shooter for taking part in the brawl against Australia last year at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue Bulacan.

The 26-year old Cebuano will take the place of Brgy. Ginebra’s Scottie Thompson in the lone personnel change coming off the team’s emphatic win over Qatar.

Andray Blatche, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Poy Erram, Troy Rosario, Gabe Norwood, Thirdy Ravena, Marcio Lassiter, Mark Barroca, Paul Lee and Jayson Castro complete the roster for the final game of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Game time is 8:30pm (10:30pm Philippine time) at the Republican Velodrome Saryarka in Astana, Kazakstan.

Gilas bowed to the Kazakhs, 88-92, during the 5th window of the 2nd round held at the MOA Arena last November and needs to win tonight to keep its hopes for a spot in the 2019 FIBA World Cup alive.

5-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo is expected to play in the crucial match after almost missing out the game against Qatar due to slight fever.
