PJ Simon will be calling it quits at the end of the PBA’s 2020 Philippine Cup.
The 5-foot-11 native of Makilala, Cotabato, who will be turning 40 on June 1, is set to suit up for the final time for Magnolia – the only team he has played for in a colorful 16-year career with his number 8 set to be retired when the Hotshots take on Manila Clasico rival Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel on May 10 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Simon, the 43rd overall pick in the 2004 draft, is an 8-time PBA champion including a rare Grand Slam in 2014 as well as an 8-time PBA All-Star. He was named as the ASG MVP in 2008 and was the Three-point shootout champion in 2019.
The 2-time PBA Mr. Quality Minutes awardee (2008 and 2014) walked down the aisle last year with 2018 Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational Jehza Huelar.
Simon will become the 4th player under the Purefoods franchise to be honored with a jersey retirement ceremony after Alvin Patrimonio (16), Jerry Codinera (44) and Rey Evangelista (7).
