A game Christian Standhardinger showed up for Gilas Pilipinas practice just hours after San Miguel pulled the plug on a deal which sent the 30-year old Fil-German to NorthPort for fellow top overall pick Moala Tautuaa.
Standhardinger was in attendance for the national team’s regular Monday evening practice at the Meralco Gym but begged off from talking to the media after the blockbuster trade.
“I told him he can leave early. I asked him if he wants to be interviewed, but he said I’ll just leave early,” said Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone.
“I understand the guy, he just got traded and he rather not talk about it right now,” he added.
Cone admitted that he found out about the swap before practice started and was actually wondering whether Standhardinger would still attend after the unexpected development.
“He could’ve easily said he didn’t want to come and deal with the press. But he chose to come. Real proud of him for coming. Really shows me he wants to be here,” said Cone.
“If he didn’t take this seriously, he would have found an excuse. This would have been a good excuse not to show up. I’m real happy,” added the Brgy. Ginebra mentor.
