Gilas Pilipinas program director Tab Baldwin has reached out to the PBA with the hope of patching things up after the 62-year old American/New Zealander drew the ire of the league for claiming that its one-import policy is a big mistake and that imports are given preferential treatment by the referees.
Aside from the ‘disparaging’ remarks against Asia’s oldest professional cage league, the head coach of Ateneo de Manila University also branded local basketball coaches as ‘tactically immature’.
The meeting with league commissioner Willie Marcial will be through video conferencing due to the ongoing pandemic with the date still to be finalized.
Marcial stressed that he’s willing to listen to Baldwin’s side of the story considering that it was latter who reached out to him and asked for an audience.
“Siya naman ang nagpasabi na gusto niyang makipag-usap. Tayo naman nagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa lahat. Kahit yung mga players or coaches na may automatic fines, pero gusto tayong makausap, pinagbibigyan natin yun,” said the former league statistician and media bureau head.
Marcial, however, refused to discuss the penalty and whether or not the concurrent TNT KaTropa assistant coach will be suspended.
