The PBA Commissioner’s Office has upgraded the Flagrant Foul Penalty 1 slapped on TNT import Terrence Jones for headbutting San Miguel’s Chris Ross during the first quarter of Game 3 of the best-of-seven Finals series in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The decision to elevate the call to FFP2 was made after a thorough review of the game tape by the league’s technical committee.
With game officials opting to call just an FFP1, the prolific import was able to continue playing after serving the three-minute penalty and went on to finish the match with 37 points, 18 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 blocks and lead the KaTropa to a convincing 115-105 win and a 2-1 series lead.
Had Jones been charged with an FFP2 outright, the former Houston Rockets forward would’ve been automatically ejected from the game thereby changing its entire complexion.
The upgraded penalty also included a P20,000 fine for the leading contender for the Best Import award.
Meanwhile, SMB big man Christian Standhardinger was fined P5,000 for his FFP1 on Jones.
No suspensions will be served for Game 4 which is scheduled on Sunday, August 11, 6:35pm at the Big Dome.
