Terrence Jones dropped another triple-double while the rest of the KaTropa lit it up from long distance to power TNT to a 115-97 rout of Blackwater in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Sunday night at the Smart Aranera Coliseum.
The win, which was TNT’s 9th overall and 7th consecutive against a single loss for a league-leading 9-1 record, assured the flagship team of the MVP group a twice-to-beat incentive in the next round.
Jones tallied 36 points, including 6 of 9 from 3-point country, to go along with 16 rebounds, 14 assists and 3 blocks. The former NBA player presided over the vaunted TNT attack which saw the team convert 19 triples out of 47 attempts for a decent 40 percent shooting clip.
The KaTropa scored a combined 66 points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters as against 43 for Elite to turn a 2-point 1st quarter edge into a 25-point advantage going into the payoff period.
“Kita naman natin na depensa pa rin,” said TNT coach Bong Ravena shortly after the match. “We played great defense for us to make a stop. Basically, it’s all defense. We planned to be locked in on defense, be consistent, and play hard.”
Five TNT locals scored in double figures led by Troy Rosario with 14. Brian Heruela and Rogor Pogoy contributed 12 points apiece while Jayson Castro and Don Trollano added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Rookie Ray Parks topscored for the Elite with 21 markers while Mike DiGregorio added 19.
