Terrence Romeo came up with his best performance in a San Miguel jersey in Game 2 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup best-of-seven Finals series against his former team TNT, Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Romeo scattered 29 points highlighted by 6-of-8 shooting from long distance to go along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 37 minutes of action.
While the 27-year old Imus, Cavite native was held scoreless in the two extra periods, his clutch triple with 18 seconds left in regulation period tied the game at 106 and eventually forced the first overtime.
His scoring explosion in Game 2 was a major upgrade from his 11-point performance in the series opener which the Beermen lost badly, 109-96.
When asked what happened in between the 2 games, Romeo credited SMC Sports Director Alfrancis Chua whose pep talk somewhat rekindled the old fire in his game.
“After ng Game 1, kinausap ako ni boss Alfrancis. Sabi niya sa akin, hanapin ko daw ang scoring ko para pag na-collapse ang depensa sa akin, mas madali ako makaka-pasa,” said the 3-time PBA scoring champion.
“Whole time ko kasi sa San Miguel, never ako naglu-look to shoot. Kasi nga sa sobrang dami naming scorer, minsan titira lang ako kapag may pagkakataon. Pero most of the time, hinahanap ko mga kasama ko. So ayun, malaking pasalamat talaga kay boss Al,” he added.
With the series down to a best-of-five affair, Romeo believes that the Beermen should stay aggressive all throughout match if it wants to solve the TNT puzzle.
“Kailangan yung laro namin pag kami ang lumamang, ganoon din dapat ang laro namin hanggang dulo. Kailangan hanapin namin yung mga mismatch, kung saan kami magkakaroon ng madaling atake or saan kami pwede maka-score ng madali.”
