Three NorthPort players still holding out for bigger contracts

With no wins to show after 4 starts, NorthPort’s problems are bound to get bigger after three key players declined to sign contract extensions.
Two starters – Robert Bolick and Greg Slaughter together with back-up playmaker Nico Elorde have yet to affix their signatures on new deals after their previous ones expired.
Bolick and Slaughter, according to sources, have been offered max deals but are reportedly asking for more.
“Greg is asking more than four times than what is being offered,” said a source to the Inquirer.
The Batang Pier, sources say, have a standing offer of ₱420,000 a month for the two starters. They cannot offer more as that is already the league’s maximum.
“The offers for them (Slaughter and Bolick) are still on the table,” another source confirmed to the Inquirer. “They can still sign before we play again, and it’s most likely they get to see action right away.”
This is already the second time that Slaughter is holding out from a contract extension. The former Ateneo slotman also did the same after his contract with Brgy. Ginebra expired. He bid the team farewell and left for the US shortly after the Gin Kings captured the 2019 Governors’ Cup crown.
The top overall pick of the 2013 draft came back after 8 months, signed a new deal with the Gin Kings and was shipped to the Batang Pier for Christian Standhardinger.
Bolick, on the other hand, is reportedly mulling a move over to the Japan B.League.
Elorde, who’s been with the Mikee Romero-owned franchise since 2017, has been offered a two-year extension with a significant pay cut. He turned it down and is negotiating for a much bigger pay.
Another source bared that the trio haven’t showed up for team practices after their contracts expired.
“It’s like saying that they really don’t want to be on this team. They haven’t played in months and they got paid, is it hard to show some kind of gratitude for that?”
