Brgy. Ginebra coach Tim Cone brushed off rumors that the team’s premier center, Greg Slaughter, is on the trading block.
The 31-year old, 1st overall pick of the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft has been the subject of trade talks on social media with the 7-footer supposedly being the centerpiece of trade deals which would bring him to teams such as NLEX and Blackwater.
“Just strictly rumors. We have no intention. I don’t know where these come from,” said Cone shortly after his team won over the Magnolia Hotshots in a tune-up game last Friday at the Upper Deck Gym in Pasig City.
The league’s winningest bench tactician with 21 titles tucked under his belt even described such scenarios as “laughable”.
“We are not looking anywhere. I’ve seen some of the proposals and they’ve been laughable. I prefer not to comment on it,” said the 61-year old former Alaska coach.
Cone bared that he has spoken to Slaughter about it and advised him to stay off social media as all those talk going around won’t do him any good.
“I told Greg to stay off Twitter and not get on stuff so he can’t get caught up in that stuff. He knows me so he knows where he stands. He doesn’t need to battle all the noise. One of the things you do as a professional is ignore the noise,” he explained.
“All of that stuff on his getting traded is just noise,” Cone added.
