Tim Cone says Brgy. Ginebra locals have to step up and stop relying too much on Justin Brownlee

Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone renewed his call to his players to step up and stop relying too much on their prolific reinforcement Justin Brownlee.

The 21-time PBA champion mentor felt that the locals failed to provide enough support anew for the reigning Best Import of the conference after the Kings absorbed their second consecutive defeat to fall to 2-3 after 5 starts.

“Again, we were deferring to Justin too much. He is doing too much for us. Our guys have to step up,” said Cone shortly after his team lost to TNT.

Brownlee paced the Kings in scoring and rebounding with 29 and 17, respectively and while LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, Greg Slaughter and Joe Devance scored in double digits, nobody could buy a basket in the closing stages of the game.

Brgy. Ginebra was able to establish a 10-point lead, 79-69, after a Slaughter floater early in the payoff period but the roof caved in slowly thereafter.

The KaTropa detonated a 12-0 bomb to wrest the upperhand, 81-79, and continued to pound the defending champs to erect their own double-digit advantage which proved too much for the crowd darlings to overcome.

“We played a good three quarters but it’s the fourth quarter that counts. We panicked when they made a run at us. We just never got our feet under us. We just have to show more discipline in our game when it comes down to the fourth quarter,” Cone said.
