Jericho Cruz’ uneventful stint with the TNT KaTropa is almost certain to come to a close.
This after the NorthPort Batang Pier agreed to act as the conduit between the KaTropa and Cruz’ target destination, the NLEX Road Warriors.
TNT and NLEX are barred by the league from dealing directly with each other since both teams, along with the Meralco Bolts, belong to the MVP Group.
Although details of the deal are still being ironed out, the names of Marion Magat and Mike Miranda, along with two future picks, are said to be in the mix.
If ever the deal pushes through, Cruz will be reunited with Road Warriors team manager and head coach Yeng Guiao. The former Pampanga congressman, then acting as coach of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, chose the 6-foot-1 product of Adamson University as team’s 1st round pick, 9th overall in the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft. Guiao also served as godfather during Cruz’ wedding sometime in 2016.
The two were part of the team that won the 2016 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the Elasto Painters’ second title in the PBA.
Guiao left the team the following season to join NLEX while Cruz was traded to TNT in February of 2018 for Sydney Onwubere, Kris Rosales and a 2018 first round pick which turned out to be Javee Mocon.
