Magnolia shackled down Rain or Shine at the start and at the finish, and rolled to a second straight win with a 69-68 nipping of the Elasto Painters in the PBA Governors Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Friday night.
The Hotshots and the E-Painters engaged in a defensive grind, with the latter pulling through merely on a split from the line by Mark Barroca with 9.8 ticks to go, followed by a critical defensive stop.
Magnolia blew away a 10-point lead at 68-58 but salvaged the win as the Hotshots actually blanked the E-Painters in the last 2:14 of play.
“It’s a defensive struggle. We let them score a lot at some point but we made the stops when we needed to, and that’s what matters,” said Magnolia import Romeo Travis.
“Ang ganda ng inilaro defensively and offensively; nagtulong-tulong lang,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.
“It was a test of character for us. Maganda na rin dahil siguro kailangan namin ito para sa mga susunod na laro. Chemistry-wise, maganda kasi kabisado namin si Travis,” added Victolero.
