June Mar Fajardo was visibly frustrated when he retreated to the bench after fouling out with 3:49 remaining in Game 1 against Phoenix on Saturday.
Fajardo, who was coming off a stellar performance where he scored 32 points on a perfect 11-of-11 shooting from the field, struggled all game long and only finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
But that hardly mattered as Alex Cabagnot took care of business to lead the Beermen to a 100-88 win over Phoenix in the opener of their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The cerebral guard finished with 26 points, 15 of which came in the first half. He also tallied five rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter chipped in 14 points each, while Christian Standhardinger had 12 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists.
With Fajardo saddled by foul trouble, the three took charge in fending off a late rally by the Fuel Masters who battled from 24 points down.
