San Miguel played like a true champion by executing well on offense and coming out with a lot of energy on the defensive end, leading to a 108-101 win over the Magnolia Hotshots that knotted their 2019 PBA Philippine Cup title series at 1-1 Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
“We’re so glad we were able to tie the series. We tried avoiding going 0-2,” said San Miguel coach Leo Austria.
“We had to step up in defense and that’s what happened. We showed some energy,” he added.
The middle quarters provided the storyline as San Miguel outscored Magnolia 60-44 during that stretch to turn a shaky one-point lead to an 83-66 bubble heading to the final period.
Making matters worse was the inability of combo guard Paul Lee to get his offense going.
