DEZ Wells was already heating up when a foul by Columbian’s Jackson Corpuz fired up the San Miguel Beer import even more.
Wells went on to take full charge for the remainder of the fourth period and pointing the Beermen to a 113-107 win over the Dyip Sunday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Wells scattered 18 of his game-high 39 points in the payoff quarter to spark a decisive run and also enable SMB to unleash a fiery windup and close the game out against gritty Columbian.
“Komportable sila sa amin,” said Beermen coach Leo Austria of the Dyip, who have beaten them in their first two meetings this season and seemed poised to pull off another upset after leading by 11 in the third period.
“That’s why we were trying to get separation from them early, pero sila pa nakalayo sa amin agad,” added Austria.
