GILAS Pilipinas kicked off its campaign in the King Abdullah Cup on the wrong foot, suffering a 73-60 loss to Egypt at the Prince Hamza Hall in Jordan.
Woeful shooting from beyond the arc hurt the Filipinos’ bid as they managed to convert just 4-of-27 of their shots and trailed for the most part.
Overall, the team shot 35 percent from the floor (23-of-64) and committed 15 turnovers.
Gilas even struggled from the foul line by going 10-of-29.
Naturalized big man Ange Kouame carried the fight for the national team with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while top PBA special Gilas draft pick of 2019 Isaac Go of Blackwater was the only other Gilas to finish in double figures also with 13.
Still, the Filipinos tried to make a game out of it when they rallied from a 12-point deficit to start the fourth and threatened at 58-64 in the final three minutes.
