The TNT KaTropa survived a late surge from the San Miguel Beermen to notch a 93-88 victory and stay alive in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals Monday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Jayson Castro delivered in the clutch, finishing with 19 points, nine assists, and three steals, to steer TNT to the crucial win that forced a do-or-die Game 3.
Roger Pogoy was also instrumental in the victory as he unleashed 20 points, including 17 in the first half, alongside nine rebounds and four assists.
Unlike in the series opener, the KaTropa, who carried a slim five-point lead entering the fourth quarter, managed to avoid an endgame meltdown by tightening their defense and leaning on Castro’s heroics.
After getting hurt in an earlier play, June Mar Fajardo returned to the floor in the last two minutes and immediately knocked down a basket and a couple of free throws to tie the score at 86.
