San Miguel showed its resilience as a champion team in a battle of attrition with TNT KaTropa, grinding out a 127-125 win in double-overtime in Game Two of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday.
The Beermen also cashed in on crucial breaks that went their way – including Terrence Jones’ ejection with 21 seconds to go in the first overtime – as SMB forced a 1-1 deadlock in the best-of-seven title playoff.
Even on the exit of Jones, KaTropa actually had couples of chances to salvage the game but they blew it all, including two make-or-break three-point attempts by Jayson Castro in the dying seconds.
The Beermen blew away an early 17-point lead but refused to lose, seeing a hero rising just every time they needed one in this classic 58-minute game.
McCullough had 32 points, 22 rebounds and seven assists, Romeo had 29 markers, Ross added 25, Cabagnot chipped in 19 and June Mar Fajardo contributed 12 markers and 10 boards for the Beermen.
