Beaten in its conference debut, reigning champ Magnolia Pambansang Manok agonized through the opening quarter of its second game against NorthPort.
Then the Hotshots exploded with a 37-point second-quarter output and sustained the turnaround through the final half en route to a 96-80 rout of the NorthPort Batang Pier in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday.
Ian Sangalang matched his career-high 28 points, Romeo Travis flirted with a triple double with 17 markers, 12 rebounds and nine assists, and Mark Barroca provided tremendous defensive muscle on top of his 16-point game as the Hotshots rebounded from their 92-98 loss to the Bolts on Saturday.
Barroca threw a defensive net on Robert Bolick whom he held down to seven after a 20-point job in their 99-94 win over Rain or Shine on opening day.
The peppery Hotshot guard from Zamboanga also had a hand with admirable effort on both ends in their decisive 37-8 pummeling of the Batang Pier in the second quarter.
