After bungling mammoth leads in the first two games, Rain or Shine finally got to fight with a sustained energy and firepower, averting elimination with a 112-104 win over San Miguel Beer in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinal face-off at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Wednesday night.
The E-Painters actually squandered a big first-half lead — yet again — but stayed in the battle and beat out the Beermen in a seesaw duel in the fourth quarter, thus, foiling SMB’s sweep bid.
The Beermen, however, remained in control of the series at 2-1. They take their second crack at the finals in Game Four Friday and if necessary in a do-or-die setto Sunday.
The back-to-the-wall E-Painters refused to give up and refused to give in, and finally pulled one on a 10-to-nothing closing salvo by Gabe Norwood, Rey Nambatac and Beau Belga.
“Hanggang may buhay, may pag-asa. Yun ang mindset namin at hindi kami bumitaw doon,” said Nambatac, top scoring among the locals with 22 points in 25 minutes of action coming off the bench.
