San Miguel Beer needed just one quarter to turn things around.
After a slow start, the Beermen exploded in the second period and went on to drub the Alaska Aces, 119-107, in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday.
The Beermen looked like they finally rediscovered their groove, playing like the team that won five straight Philippine Cup titles. They dropped a 36-point bomb in the second period and turned a tight match into a blowout.
“This is a very important game for us,” said SMB head coach Leo Austria.
Indeed, the Beermen badly needed this victory coming off a loss against Ginebra. They picked up their second win in five matches and Austria is hopeful it would be the springboard for more wins.
“I’m so happy we had the sense of urgency after the slow start and we were able to recover,” he said.
