WATCH: Unlucky break for the Magnolia Hotshots!

A big boost to San Miguel with his offensive firepower, Dez Wells showcased his defensive skills this time, allowing the Beermen to preserve their perfect run with a 90-89 nail-biter over the Magnolia Hotshots Friday at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.

With his team ahead by a whisker, Wells pulled a steal off Ian Sangalang underneath the Magnolia basket in the dying seconds, and San Miguel preserved the win and a clean slate in chase of a last jewel to a possible grand slam in PBA Season 44.

The Beermen improved to 4-0 while pushing the Hotshots down to 3-2.

Wells exploded for 33 points but it was his defensive gem on Sangalang that clinched their fourth win in a row in the season-ending Governors Cup.

It was a battle that boiled down to the final second where Wells tapped an offensive rebound by Sangalang – from a Mark Barroca airball — before eventually seizing possession at the buzzer.
