With the PBA shifting into high gear with the start of the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao knows that getting enough players to join the national team’s practices will now be a primary concern with the FIBA World Cup also fast approaching.
According Guiao, several players have already expressed their willingness to help, and one of them is SMB veteran guard Chris Ross.
“A lot of other guys are volunteering. I heard Chris Ross is volunteering. Madali naman if we need warm bodies,” said the fiery mentor.
If ever if comes to fruition, this will be the first time that Ross will serve the national basketball team, even as just a practice player.
Aside from Ross, former Gilas players Beau Belga and Stanley Pringle joined the squad’s previous practices and both were eventually included in the 19-man training pool that the Samahang Basketol ng Pilipinas has submitted to FIBA.
While nothing is certain yet, Guiao said he appreciates the intentions of Ross especially since the two have figured in verbal jousts in the past.
“Sinabi ko lang na nagvo-volunteer siya. And we appreciate that.”
