Yeng Guiao names Gilas Pilipinas Final 12 for crucial game against Qatar

With big man Raymond Almazan going down with a sprained left ankle during the national team’s practice last Sunday, Ateneo superstar Thirdy Ravena got an unexpected call-up from coach Yeng Guiao for the final line-up of Gilas Pilipinas for the 6th and penultimate window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

The high-flying younger brother of suspended NLEX guard Keifer Ravena will join June Mar Fajardo, Poy Erram, Japeth Aguilar, Troy Rosario, Gabe Norwood, Scottie Thompson, Marcio Lassiter, Mark Barroca, Paul Lee, Jayson Castro and naturalized player Andray Blatche for the game against Qatar on February 21, 12 midnight Philippine time in Doha.

Aside from Almazan, Roger Pogoy was also struck out of the team as the TNT shooter is still serving the last of the 5-game suspension handed down by FIBA for his involvement in the infamous brawl with Australia last year.

The Philippines is currently in 4th place in Group F with an even 5-5 record behind Australia (9-1), Iran (7-3) and Japan (6-4) and must win its remaining games against Qatar and Kazakhstan to get a chance at qualifying for the 2019 FIBA World Cup which is slated on August 31 to September 15.
