For the second consecutive time, Kiefer Ravena was among the two ‘randomly’ selected players from the Philippine national basketball team to undergo drug testing before an official game in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
After being selected along with June Mar Fajardo right before the team’s opening game against Italy, the 25-year old product of Ateneo de Manila University was selected once more, this time with Japeth Aguilar prior to the match against tournament favorite Serbia which is scheduled on Monday, September 2, 7:30pm.
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Yeng Guiao was piqued by the latest development.
“Parang hindi na random. Parang hindi accurate ang word na random. Maybe they’re really picking on him. Kaka-blood test, kaka-drug test lang nya,” said Guiao.
Despite being puzzled by the situation, the fiery mentor refused to dwell on FIBA’s questionable call and remained confident that Ravena will come out negative in the 2 rounds of testing for prohibited substances.
“Wala naman tayong tinatago so okay lang sa atin,” stressed the former Pampanga congressman. “Wala naman tayong kailangang hindi ipaalam sa kanila. Gusto nila, tatlong beses isang araw syang dina-drug test, pwede rin yon. Wala namang problema sa atin yon.”
Test results will be released in two to three months.
